TERMITES

Environmentally Friendly Termite Management Programs

Termites (White Ants) 1 in every 3 homes is attacked by termites - no property is safe from termites. Termite queens live as long as 32-40 years. The queen is capable of producing 2000 eggs per day. The Australian Standard is the only right way to treat termites.

Found Termites? Do not disturb them - just call us. A thorough inspection is the first stage in any successful subterranean termite treatment. We encourage every homeowner to have a termite inspection at least every 12 months (inspection includes an 8 page report).

Termites nest in large underground colonies containing millions of insects. They travel up to 400 metres in search of food so quite often they are not anywhere near the home that they are striking.

Many people think that termites only attack timber homes but this is not the case. Brick homes on concrete slabs allow termites to enter through tiny cracks in the concrete. The presence is not obvious as termites are masters of camouflage. They can eat hard and soft timbers and over ten different species are found locally.

We recommend a four-pronged attack on termites:

1.     The first stage of any pest management program is an inspection to determine the species, location and extent of infestation.

2.     Eradication. There are various options available in eradicating termites. We will provide you with the most up-to-date information available; offer advice and recommendations taking into consideration your budget, environmental factors and the construction of your home.

3.     Protection. The best protection your home can have is a chemical barrier system installed or Exterra interception and baiting system. These systems are carried out to Australian Standards to impede, discourage and eradicate the concealed entry of termites into your home.

4.     Follow up inspections.

TIPS

Each year we spend hundreds of dollars on car insurance, home insurance, contents insurance and health insurance. Unfortunately, many people tend to ignore safeguarding their home against termite infestation.

Prevention for termite is better than cure and certainly a lot less costly. We offer affordable preventative treatments, which may save you thousands of dollars in damage bills.

The Do Nots In Termite Prevention:

  • If termites are located, do not disturb them. They are needed alive to allow a more effective treatment.
  • Do not spray the area with insecticide
  • Wooden piles, wooden articles, cardboard boxes and other cellulose based materials should not be stored in direct ground contact or underneath houses. These materials provide termites with an excellent food source and, in some cases may assist in creating an entry point for termites into your home.
  • Do not have gardens, trees, plants, mulch or bark too close to the perimeter of the home. A clearance of at least 300mm should be allowed for visual inspection of the home.
  • Leaking taps, showers, air-conditioning or hot water overflows or things that may create high moisture should be rectified as soon as possible.
  • Do not allow the subfloor ventilation to become inadequate. Check for moisture under the house regularly.
  • Subfloor drainage should be checked to prevent excess water accumulating. High moisture levels may assist in attracting termite to your home.
  • Do not use untreated timbers to form garden beds or retaining walls, as these will attract termites.
  • Termite inspections should be carried out annually or in high-risk areas, it may be suggested that inspections are more frequent.
  • A termite inspection provides information to the homeowners. Clients are given a full written report regarding any actively located and recommendations that assist in termite prevention.
